Well a lot of it is going to be used to insulate the red cabin. Then we are also going to experiment with making mattresses with the rest.
Any Ideas?

What form is the wool in? I am assuming its right off the sheep..? If so is it planned to be washed before made to beds?


Other than that.. my current idea is basically a thick layered quilt. Sew a big case leaving one end open.. stuff with wool.. sew/zip up end..do lots of ties like you see on quilts (down thru top fabric, thru wool, thru bottom fabric.. back up and tied).
Or have your big mattress case leaving one end open.. make lots of pillow size cases filled with wool.. use the smaller wool filled cases to fill big mattress case to desired feel and zip up. You coud easily open it up to add more if it feels to be getting flat or to replace thewool if needed/wanted.

I have several other ideas but they are more in depth and set aside for my evil plot business dream (( lol well one of em)) to raise fiber animals and make natural beds/bedding.

the quilted wool mattress is a great idea, similar to a futon type mattress, I'm assuming? I wondering if it would help to felt the wool in large sheets to layer them in the mattress, instead of stuffing it? that way the wool doesn't get mashed down as much as it's used?
Have you seen where people use old blue jeans as insulation? They get the raggedy ones from thrift stores, the ones they are going to toss...and shred them, then they pack those in...but not to tightly (Bryan wants to note) because you need air to insulate. Then you're repurposing what would've gone into the landfill and you can save the wool for things like spinning and knitting into thick cozy blankets or rugs or mitts...

Well, with that narrow head, it doesn't look like a venomous snake. It looks like a baby rat snake, but I'm from the midwest and don't know what lives in Montana. I've not seen garter snakes that color.

So a quick update from Base Camp. We just finished up our natural building workshop this last sunday! It was a really productive and educative event! We had a lot of great people here for the week and we hope to see them come back some time soon! During after the workshop the first gappers started arriving and now we have quite a few people around here doing some awesome stuff. It is really great to have all of these people here in our community. We are all looking forward to the solar workshop coming up in a few weeks!
