The problem will be when you move or die, if you are utilizing your running bamboo, it will feel like it is not growing fast enough, but that goes with any plant that has uses.  

*, reading your last part regarding planting it near the neighbor's fence, would need to do more than mowing. It will pop up in their yard, bamboo will be hated more and more horror stories, etc.

borers have been a problem for mine, but for the pioneer tree aspect, they have been great for me, as they are helping create a forest in as little as time possible and I plant more fragile trees among them.

Do the grafts grow a lot slower since beeches don't grow fast like chestnuts?

Though they don't have much variety compared to the past, so haven't lately.  

I've bought trees and seed from them in the past and have been satisfied.  

My thornless honeylocust produces thorny and thornless seedlings.

Also there are different species a person can grow.  I think Paulownia Elongata gets taller and bigger.  

One that you mentioned in the first post, European Beech, seems like a possibility with its shade tolerance and future nut production.

If planted near the fence, will have to be far enough away or the cattle will just eat them.  

When I planted b.locust seeds, I scarified, but once I got some plants going, never had to mess with seeds again.  I planted my seeds in a nursery and transplant the trees out every year and new suckers take off, ready for another year.  

yeah, they are pretty easy to multiple via suckers.  Early on I started with seed, but don't have to anymore.
