This might seem silly, but for a yet unknown reason it made my day!

I was packed up for the night, just poking the fire to throw on my normal bucket of coal....

I get an email and I had to read it twice!  Iv been struggling a lot recently and this site has filled me with inspiration and now a little boyish happiness!

So to whomever sent me the apple, thank you!

I hope this makes someone else smile!

This has really made my day !!

Have some Pie with that apple!

Hey a fellow coal burner! I burn coal as well, but it has to be really cold out. (Below 0 (f). Normally I just use wood pellets/Oil/Firewood/Electric/Geothermal/Propane to heat my house! (I live in Maine in case you could not tell) LOL

Travis thank you so much! I was literally just about to start looking up how many apples needed for pie when your email came through!

Yes it's pretty nippy here, single skinned lightweight tipi doesnt hold the heat Haha currently 5° C   (40°F for anyone with that scale)  5kw multi fuel stove j got for a bargain, j get it going with some really dry beech  and then just before bed literally full it almost to the top (it's not very big) and in the morning I will have some embers to re light it with keeping me around 10°C all night :)

What type of coal do you prefer to burn? I'm still new to coal

Thank you again, I'm going to go explore PIE now 😁😁

I burn anthracite coal, it is all we can get here. It burns pretty hot though, and absolutely no smoke; just a heat haze coming off the chimney.

Somewhere I have a picture of it being the coldest ever that I remember here, it was -45.3 degrees below zero (f).

With firewood, I can get the house up to 80 degrees, but with coal I can get it up to 90 degrees (f). This is 2200 sq ft home, so that is pretty good.

I have not been to where you live, but have been to Ireland in the middle of February, and I kind of chuckled. They said that year it was one of the coldest on records as they got some snow. Over there they burned "peat" though. Interesting stuff.

I understand how you feel.  It always makes me feel so good when I get an apple or a pie.  It's so nice to know someone values your input.  Enjoy Permies, and the apples and pie yet to come.

I know exactly how you feel, I felt the same when I got my first apple and each time I get another.  Apple getting/giving is a fun system.  Kudos to whoever thought it up.  :)

Hi Toby; Welcome to Permies!

Have you looked at building a rocket mass heater for your tipi ?
We have a forum all about them... check it out!
We would love to guide you towards a RMH build!

To get a wish, you need a genie. To get a genie, you need a lamp. To get a lamp, you need a tiny ad:
A rocket mass heater heats your home with one tenth the wood of a conventional wood stove
