Howdy Permie peeps!

I'm 47 years young, and have been dreaming of cutting the societal umbilical cord for several years now. I am not a fan of big cities, although life choices put me into one of around 49,000 people for some time now. I no longer need to exist in this city, however.

I have done (individually) many of the activities required to KEEP a perma-existence, although I am yet to combine it all into a day-to-day drive toward self-sustainability.

I am currently looking for a plot of land (shooting for 2-4 acres flat, tillable) with some tree life. Preferably with a well already there, although I can get by with a rain catchment system (depending on location). Septic not a requirement as I plan to get a composting toilet.

My skills are evolving. Gardening and carpentry are what I can do at present. Please don't ask me to wire up anything (unless YouTube is handy).

Work-wise, I am a freelance digital marketer/content writer, which will be enough to cover property taxes and whatever else is needed to pour into my off-grid life on a monthly basis. I am an out-of-the-box thinker, so my money making skills are not limited to what technology permits me to do.

Health is good. Against drugs. 420 tolerable, although I do not partake except for an occasional edible. Working on the whole quit smoking thing, which I am 39 days free of them cancer sticks.

Favorite music is classic rock, although I love anything but hardcore rap.

Political views? They can all leave me alone and let me enjoy the land. Local government will get my property taxes and that's it - although I will homestead the property to reduce liability and take every last perk they offer.

I am not a fan of television. Too much systematic hate and nonsensical drivel for my liking.

I prefer women. What you do behind closed doors (or in open spaces) with your partner is not my concern, and I will not treat you differently for what you prefer; just don't try and push me to change my preference.

Don't let my age deter anyone wanting to bear a child; my resolve is strong enough to parent until I'm 90.

I am without a family, at least in the traditional sense. My biological parents have been deceased since 1981 (mom) and 1989 (dad). I was adopted in 1982 due to the State of Illinois ripping me from an abusive home in 1979 and throwing me into the foster system. My adopted parents disavowed my existence after I turned 18. My sister and brother, well, I tried to be involved with them, but apparently I just never "cut the mustard" with them, so they are doing THEM and I am doing ME.

Anyway, this is the Cliff's Notes version of me. Purple Mooseages are always open to anyone needing an ear.

I think protection from the west wind may score high on your priority list in your part of the world be it a tree line or hillside.

Welcome to Permies, Roger, and congrats on the 39 days smoke-free! Good luck on the land hunt and hopefully you can glean some good ideas here about how to utilize it once you do have it.

Roger, welcome! What a lovely introduction; I think you'll fit right in! Everyone here is at different stages of our permaculture journey, but we all see the value of working toward that direction. This is a great place to dream, to share, to ask questions, and to learn. Welcome aboard.
