been noticing lately that folks' links aren't always easy to see; it's hard to tell the text is blue.  could just be my monitor, though.  I've been getting around it by making my links bold.

Good tip.  I use Firefox, links are showing up in a low contrast blue.

A pet peeve of mine is the yard long URL.  I saw one yesterday that must have been 4 lines deep.

When posting a URL, click the Globe icon.  In your text box will appear:

Pasting or typing your link in between will give you a link with that text

the result of the above: [url=http://www.fark.com]www.fark.com

Add an EQUAL SIGN and your link immediately after the first URL, with alternate text between the brackets will give you this:

The result of the above: [url=http://www.fark.com]Fark

Makes for a tidy post.

I just figured out how to do this.....and am using it all the time now.  Will make the links bold, that's a good idear.  Does the bold command/code go outside the url command?

I've previewed this twice, the top is getting chewed up.
go with the lower method, bold on the OUTSIDE of the URL code
