I constantly hilled practically almost daily with a pail of soil, since it was so simple. I also tried the experiment at other times, but not quite so formally with exactly the same result. I did the formal experiment to silence the propagators of the nonsense about getting hundred of pounds of potatoes by utilizing such vertical methods. The paper gardener of the Seattle Times constantly harps about the practice with drawings but never any photos. Never have I seen new tubers anywhere, but around the seed potato, and only slightly above, as my test box indicates.
