I found a great article on saving heirloom seeds, copied here:

Is anyone else in Missoula planning on saving heirloom seeds? Would there be
enough people with an abundance of seeds to consider having a seed exchange--we could do something like a small potluck and if people are interested but don't have seeds to share they could bring food instead. What do people think?
