My home's septic system leech field is in my front
yard by a fairly busy road. This area of lawn is naturally the most fertile bit of
land I own, but I am reluctant to put a vegetable garden there. (I don't want to spend time where I don't want the kids hanging out, and I'd rather not build a toddler resistant
fence in my front yard.) So the question is.... how do I pull nutrients up out of my leech field and into something I can harvest (as mulch,
compost material, something I can extract food or money from, etc)? The goals: spend less time working that bit of land than a garden takes, not mess up my leech field's ability to do it's thing, grow something more useful than grass. (bee friendly and flowers for the house covers a multitude of sins)
Anyway..... I need ideas, and I'm sure lots of people have
experience with growing on leech fields. My only motorized tools are a riding mower and a tiller. I'd love to not use either on this bit of soil.
