I was following threads on persimmons.  We have a small Orchard,  so I am constantly doing more research.   We also have some very large Chest nut trees that were spared from the blight.   They are located in 2 neighboring counties.
I found Dr Smiths obit.  http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=120299573. Quite interesting.
I wish I COULD VISIT WHATEVER IS LEFT of his gardens/Orchards.  Man ahead of his time.

Hey, Avotts, welcome to Permies!  I am a big fan of persimmons myself.

For people who don't know, that obituary is for J. Russell Smith, the author of Tree Crops: A Permanent Agriculture.

We have a thread here at Permies where folks were trying to track down that orchard.  Apparently there was some sort of public tour of it fairly recently if I'm reading that thread correctly.
