This is really neat, particularly the space saving stairs, thought some of you might be able to make good use of those in your own small space. Might be a bit of a hazard in the dark late at night or for the elderly or very young but interesting none the less.

Wouldn't it be cool to have a small cluster of those for the WWOOFs to live in?

Rather, I'm thinking of how cool it would be to have a small cluster of those to rent to university students!

One of the best ways of reducing ongoing energy costs is to downsize the whole house.

Those stairs are sometimes referred to as Lapeyre stairs, or Monk stairs.  Yes, very space efficient, and pretty steep.

Not uncomfortable to use if you are spry at all.

Finest regards,

troy

Something which European designers usually don't bother with is the issue of storing your transportation.  Most people that would build this house probably wouldn't have a garage, just gravel out front for parking their car.  In America, the lack of good mass transit in most of the country means having an auto is a necessity.  This opens up even more possibilities: having an adjacent 3X3 cube used to store your car, with storage space above.  Instead of solar panels, the roof can be slanted to catch rain water (although I suppose that could be done with the solar panels, too.)

I'll have to ruminate upon the possibilities ...

Many of the "nicer" neighborhoods around here have various covenant HOA restrictions that you can't build a house with less than  2,000 sq ft, or 2,500.

We have a lot of work ahead of us to change the culture.
