Here's my take on the classic seed planting stick. It's the combination of a seed planting stick and a furrowing hoe.

You put your seeds in the pocket of an apron or a small bucket tied around your waist. Then you walk along, scratch a spot, sprinkle in some seeds, then cover the seeds with soil. It works good for ensuring good seed to soil contact when planting into existing vegetation like sod forming grasses, or through heavy mulch or cover crop.

The seeds go exactly where you want them, and there's no having to bend over.

Clever!
You could use it to bury cigarette butts also.

No thanks I don't smoke, I'll stick to wildflower seed mixes.

....unless cigarette butts are magic tree growing special sauce, then heck i might take up smoking

I don't have a photo handy, but at one point I was experimenting with something similar. Mine was just a 1/2in PVC pipe zip-tied to a long-handled weeding fork. The idea was to stick the fork in the ground, tilt it, then drop the seed in the resulting gap. It didn't quite make a big enough gap, but I had so many other projects going that I never pursued it further.

The bend in the hoe you used is far enough that I'd find it hard to use, but if it works for you then awesome!

I might try something different like an ice-chopper. It looks like a hoe, but the blade is in line with the handle instead of at an angle. That should make a bigger gap in the soil.

That is a great idea! I might have to see if I can build one (i.e. get my husband to build one); it would be really great for planting large areas. Way more efficient than squatting down crab-walking around to do it by hand.
