I got this message in my purple mooseages, but there is no link where it says "link" (bolded below) and there is no reply button to "PM" someone back! I'm unsure how to respond or deal with this message properly:

oh dear, the system says you are a spam bot, but I think you are a real human.  If you are a real human, please read the following (link) and then send a PM back to me saying you understand.

As a hint, you get a lot more visibility having one thread about each book rather than tagging it to the end of a longer thread.  You might also want to look into our book review grid.

But if you are a spambot, keep on doing what you are doing and the system will take care of you.

Would you be interested in doing a book promotion?

Oh my, I'm not sure what happened there, or what the link was supposed to be.

It sounds like maybe you were making a lot of advertising posts, and so our system sent you a PM to make sure you weren't a spam bot. Your post here shows that you aren't. Awesome!

I'm not sure what the link was supposed to be, but maybe this one will help:

advertising for free (and not-free) on permies.com

And, if you have a book, and would like to do a promotion/giveaway, we love that here! Here's a thread on Book Promotions.

And, if you're feeling a bit lost on permies (I know I was when I first arrived at permies!), this thread might help: How permies.com works - links to useful threads

I hope that helps! And, welcome to permies!!!

ah, I see.  Looks like it was sent by the system instead of by a staff member.

The missing link is https://permies.com/advertising/
This is another good one.  https://permies.com/wiki/27826/advertising-free-free-permies

It looks like your posting style has triggered a spam filter.

On permies, we encourage respectful self-promotion but don't allow spam.

Tagging promotional posts onto the end of an old thread usually ends up being off-topic and worse, it reduces your chance of actually getting noticed.  It's a poor result all around.

Instead, to reach the most people, start ONE thread per item (be it a book or whatever).  Bump the thread if there are updates.  You might also want to look at the Thread Boost feature at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks for all your help (both of you). I am following up on those links! I did originally respond to a post or two, but then saw a note that I could make a new post in the appropriate forums for the books. I'll keep reading as there's lots of links with great info for me now!

Hopefully I can share my books and experience as I have designed and built a passive solar straw bale house before, and teach others how to make solar ovens, solar water distillers, design passive solar homes, make earth tubes for natural cooling, green building, etc. I'm thinking that most of my topics are relevant for permies. I took my PDC back in 2016 and now we are working on a nonprofit to build an ecovillage in Atlantic Canada (Nova Scotia). Lots more to come in the future!
