The tree paste is made of raw cow manure, finished BD compost, sand, and horsetail (equisetum) tea. Equal parts of the three solid components, mixed with
enough tea to make a nice smear-able texture. Apply in late winter as you surmised.
One suggestion is that for optimal composting of poultry manure, you need a lot of
carbon, so sawdust is much better than straw. Straw just doesn't have enough carbon to balance the high nitrogen levels of the poultry manure.
It is always good to use the biodynamic compost preparations in our compost piles, as they add an optimal balance of microbes to guide the decomposition in an ideal direction.
good luck!
