Ok, Thanks Rick for hanging with us...Permies Folks. Fun bunch. Anywho, In zone 7a, with lots of trees, wanted to build an inground green house(s), there are rules to follow by the government....go figure. Anyway, long story, instead of several inground green houses, basically cutting a trench and putting the plants on land with a roof overhead, now, I will have to build a larger green house, only one (per rules). That said, with small fruit trees, height is important, unless I cut out a hill side. The bottom line is secret...how. With any neighbor able to see into my narrow lot and then with elevation changes, a plastic or glass roof will reflect light and catch attention, even if from air planes or neighbor. I realize small is easier, but really want to build for year round to feed 4. So, any suggestions. Ground is mostly Georgia clay. Lots of trees, so shade is an issue.

Thanks for your time.

Richard

Some of the things in your responses so far make me think of this greenhouse plan from my FB friend Mark. Maybe he got the ideas from your book? I don't think I'd be able to have a greenhouse which is too close to my house - is that a must with your plan? See attached picture.

Charles... this picture really doesn't look anything like my greenhouse design.

As I show in my book, the greenhouse just looks like an add on porch/sunroom to your home... Most people would never know you have food growing there. And in my case, since the pitch of the roof is not very steep, people would never even know that the roof had glazing from the street. So for a lot of people this is a way around restrictive HOA's or local town ordinances "forbidding" greenhouses... I understand why in some cases that they may want to do that- because some greenhouses look like crap... (hoop houses with plastic over them...) But you can just build a porch/ sun room like mine and have and have plants in it...you don't have to call it a "greenhouse".

Tick check! Okay, I guess that was just an itch. Oh wait! Just a tiny ad:
