Question: We have a plant in the yard (North Idaho) with orange berries that sure looks like the pics of Western Mountain Ash which is supposed to be great for jams and jellies. The leaves also look like the pics of mountain ash. Is there a poisonous look-a-like to this plant? We want to get making some preserves if we've got the right berry.

Thanks in advance!

So wouldn't the cracking in the wood be reduced to almost nil if you used telephone poles? I think they might even deliver them for free to get rid of them if you asked for broken ones.

OK. Question here. I would really like to hear from some of you who actually own or have owned Norwegian Jaerhon chickens. Not only am I looking for some good laying hens, I am of Norwegian American heritage. So if these would work out as good layers I would prefer them even if they were not on the top of everyone's list. I want to find creative ways to pass on my ethnic heritage to my children. And this is, hopefully, a small and fun way.

So...

Tell me what to expect. What should I watch out for? What quirks are there that I should know about? Any disease issues I should know about? Are egg sizes really large for their size? How big are the eggs? Any other information you think I should know or stories you want to share would be terrific!

Tusen takk!

Thanks!

We love the Weston A. Price foundation. They inspired us to source raw milk, eat gizzards, trash the veggie oils, ditch the colorless store eggs, beans that will NEVER make you fart (through soaking with whey), and (my favorite) rediscover LARD!!! How could an organization like that not be your bff?

BTW, if anyone here doesn't have the book "Nourishing Traditions" that is a MUST have. There really is no option. You HAVE to have it. That book has changed our lives.
