I planted a couple of blueberry bushes, and am worried that they might be diseased, but I'm not sure.
They were planted in a mix of 4:2:1 sphagnum/sand/composted manure.
The pH of this mix is 5.
Prior to that, they were in pots and showed signs of moderate chlorosis. The night before transplant, the chlorotic looking parts of the plant just shriveled up and died.
I cut them off in the morning, leaving the healthy looking twigs alone. I transplanted them that same day.
The day after transplant, the rest of the bushes started to look chlorotic. The next day, they started to turn reddish brown...the leaves, that is.
I tested the soil for nitrogen and got back a null result. Having seen how that affects my root vegetables, I thought that was the issue with the reddening and shriveling of the leaves. I treated the soil with bloodmeal. pH is now just above 5.
What could possibly be wrong? I'm an inexperienced gardener, so I'm hoping I've just overlooked something easy to fix.
