Hi all,
My wife and I are homesteaders in the NH mountains.
We had an accidentally thawed chest freezer ruin hundreds of pounds of wild game and pastured poultry.
This inspired us to create the Solidus, which we are
launching on Kickstarter 6/2/15.

Solidus is a wifi enabled device that fits in the palm of your hand and notifies you anywhere in the world if the temperatures you care most about on your homestead are getting out of line. It does this with no subscription fee and with an MSRP of only $50
Homesteading applications include warnings for:
-Accidentally thawing freezers
-Greenhouses freezing or overheating
-Extreme heat/cold in livestock housing
-Pipes that risk freezing in winter
-Power or heating failures in unattended buildings
-Home brewing, lager fermentation

I know this is my first forum post, since I'm not typically a forum-person, so this feels a bit spammy and I feel a deep seated need to justify myself. I came to permies through Jack Spirko and TSP, I've probably listened to 60-70% of Paul's podcasts(I know that's a useful metric), and I've been on the daily-ish email for close to a year now. I'm currently brooding a run of 15 freedom ranger broilers, and I have more square feet of sheet mulched, no-till vegetable garden going in this year than I have square feet in my house. Hopefully this is enough street cred to make up for the whole "plugging-yourself-on-your-first-post" sin. I'm a mechanical engineer by trade, so I'm going to poke around the other boards and see if there's any help I can provide in return.
I'd love to know what everyone thinks of the product itself, as well as my online efforts to promote it up to this point.
Of course, I would be humbled if you would please consider sharing these links, or even backing the project if it sounds like a product you're interested in.
