They came in the mail. I'm going to let them soak for about a day. So far it looks like most are high density, although part are floating which some folks say means they won't germinate. There's some tips nicked but I could have gotten them out any better.

I'm planning to do part outside and part in the fridge. I'll post again in a few months to tell if I have any luck with this method, or if I learned one way not to grow an apricot tree! 😆

Joseph, that's a good point. I have had decent luck with growing grocery store beans, sunflower seeds, mustard seeds, coriander seeds, peanuts, etc as long as they were raw, but maybe they don't pasteurize any of those.

Rebecca, I think it would probably be better fresh too, but seeds can be pretty amazing!

I think I am 20 bucks of curious. I will give it shot and let you all know how it goes!

I'm wondering if I get a bag a raw apricot kernels like the ones at the link below if they will grow. Has anyone tried this?

I know they it's anyone's guess what they would taste like but I'm willing to roll the dice. 🙂

These are marketed to be eaten, but it says raw so it seems like a decent chance they will germinate. I may have to try it out of curiosity unless anyone has had a catastrophic failure!

I'm going to share some photos of my garden and would love it if other people reply with pictures from their gardens. ☺

I have quite a bit of something growing in my yard and I wasn't able to figure out what it was by Googling. I'll attach pictures.

I'm in Oklahoma, zone 7. It's got vaguely heart shaped leaves, little spherical seed clusters and grows well in the shade were hardly anything else can.

I'm kinda hopeful that it's edible/medical because it loves growing in really low sun and no irrigation.

I'd really appreciate the help if anyone knows it.

Jessica and Dillon,

Any idea what max temp a cutting can withstand? Or even a ballpark?

Do y'all usually do cuttings inside? Outside without mini greenhouse?

It was supposed to have been 33F last night and a high of 50 ish, so I doubt it is already too hot (might have frozen it actually), but its good to be mindful. I might stick a spare thermometer in the bottle next time. I'm curious yo see how hot it actually is. If I do should I measure air temperature or water temperature?

I pruned a bartlett pear tree and had some cuttings, so I decided to put them in a OJ carton with about an inch of water and set in the sun and see if it will propagate.

I don't have high hopes but it would be cool to have two more trees so I figured its worth trying.

Has anyone propagated pear cuttings? If so was it successful?

I haven't ever propagated from cuttings, so feedback is appreciated.

I live in an Oklahoma suburb and drive around 60 miles a day to work a back due to the urban sprawl. It's mostly just grass right now. It makes me sad.

I believe our green spaces can be used better. I would like to bring the idea of edible landscaping in public spaces up to my local government.

Ex. Add fruit trees and berries plants in city parks.
Perhaps a vegetable garden at the local school.

Has anyone had experience talking to local governments about proposals like this? What works? What can go wrong?

The thing that I'm scared of is a poorly designed project that fails and makes permaculture look bad.
Important considerations:
Budget
Site conditions
Soil amendments
Irrigation
Erosion control
Wildlife
Mature size of plants
Generating community support and enthusiasm
Finding volunteers
Who does maintenance?
Who gets produce?

Anything I haven't thought of that would make a stronger proposal?
