Ive been curious about this idea for a while but don't know where to ask. I was wondering if it would be possible to sell just several trees per year enough to pay the yearly load and taxes on land.  So a few considerations, how much does maple or oak go per board foot when selling to a logger or the mill. Are Mills or loggers willing to just take a few trees a year?
Where I have land is mid- northern Wisconsin. In my area land can be bought for about 1000 an acre. So say I bought a 40 I'm curious how many trees Id have to sell a year to pay for the land.
Just an idea I had that I was wondering would be possible
note I love trees especially big trees so this is why id only be interested in logging off a few a year and then replanting.
Thanks anyone who might have knowledge about theses kinds of thing or could give me an idea of where to gather information.

R Scott wrote:If you look at the dredges they use in Florida man-made lakes and canals are a trash pump like you have with a high pressure pump (firefighter pump or pressure washer) spraying a jet right at the trash pump intake to loosen the muck and break up the leaves and junk to pieces small enough to pass through the pump.

Another option if you have a helper and can get a clear pass with a 4wd or tractor is an old slip scoop. They were for moving earth with a horse. It would be a real red neck hold my beer way to do it but it should work.

Interesting R Scott I wonder if I could just strap the wand of a pressure washer to the end of the intake hose and have at it

Hello I have about a 1/3 acre pond. Right now its about 6 ft at its deepest point and d like to get it deeper I've heard that one point it was close to 15 ft (many years ago). Was curious if anyone has any creative ways to dredge it out possibly over a long period  of time.  I would prefer not to drain it and just work on it as I have time. Maybe even some home made contraption?  I bought a 3" trash pump to attempt to suck out the muck which sort of works but the screen gets clogged with leaves and such very quick.  I know this group is very inventive so I'm open to ideas.

I see your point, and either way seems like a viable option. I would still like to know how they make that connection though.

It could be but, I haven't seen any examples of how that works, if I look for videos of water wheels I always see the style I showed.

Also I though a ram pump required a first pool higher than your pump to then pump it up to your highest pond. Unless you could use the river momentum to replace the first pool?

I quess this is the kind of wheel I was looking at

What size pipe (from the pond) are we talking and what material is it made of?
How were you thinking of setting up your water wheel / pump ?
Is there drop to the pond ? Could a flume be built and used in place of a pump?

Well I haven't quite decided any of that yet although I like the idea of using 1" to 1 1/2 plastic piping on the wheel and likely the same to the pond unless that size is supposed to upsized to reduce back pressure ?
The creek is actually lower than the pond and drains into the creek.
My main question is how do you handle the connection between the wheel and your discharge pipe, since it has to rotate and be sealed. I think some of the videos I saw just had a union that was loose and leaking. that doesn't seem the best way.

Hello this spring im looking to build a water wheel that will pump water from my creek to my pond. The pond has decent flow. I really only want to pump water to the pond to increase flow and aeration though it for fish.
So my real question is where the hose connection is in the middle, where it would go to the pipe leading to the pond. How do you make that connection ? because it has to be able to turn and maintain a seal ? haven't been able to find youtube videos that really show what they are doing with that part. thanks
