Hey folks,

My partner and I are in Mexico City for the month of January and would love to see the Chinampas. We’ve taken Geoff Lawton’s course and are starting on our own permaculture design on our property. We’ve heard that the chinampas tour available to the general public is full of tourists and noise and not about learning the history and techniques of the gardens.

Is there anyone who could give us a personal tour of these wonderful gardens? We‘re ready to learn and appreciate!

Cheers

I have a 16 acre piece of land with a small cabin and a few outbuildings on it. The land has about 4 acres of flat (flat for the mountains), cleared pasture and the remaining 12 acres is forested but gently sloped. The land borders my larger 30 acres property where my partner and I are just getting started with our own permaculture design, house building, and general establishment for us and our family (current and future). My dream is to find someone who would take on this 16 acre plot and turn it into something sustainable and beautiful. The land hasn't been used for anything sustainable and I want it to have a new life but we just don't have the bandwidth to do it ourselves.

I would start the agreement with a 5 year lease (with the right person). If everything goes smoothly there is the option of extending that lease into a 99year lease or even a lease-to-own situation. The most important factor is that whoever ends up on that land shares most of our values and cares for the land as we will care for ours.

If you or anyone you know might be interested just drop a comment! I can provide pictures, details, and discussion about options.

Thanks!

We're gearing up to build our first straw bale home and are having a hard time finding a source of straw bales. Specifically, we're looking for bales that haven't been sprayed with rodenticide, have never been wet, have been freshly baled and are 3-string bales. We would really like to find all of these things in the large, 8ft bales if possible.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I know there are a few of you who have built straw bales homes in the area so I'm hoping someone can point us in the right direction.

Thanks!

Hi friends,

I apologize if this has already been addressed in other threads. I looked around but didn't see anything directly answering my question so here it is...

Has anyone found a financing option to build a cob house other than a personal loan/credit cards/cash? My partner and I are looking to build our first home and have only heard "no" from all bank lenders who would normally offer construction/mortgage loans. This is because of the "unusual" nature of cob homes, as you all are familiar with. In an ideal world we would find some small company who likes the "unusual" and would help us fulfill this dream of ours, but my searching has come up empty. So you lovely people are my last stop!
