90% of all the challenges in permaculture are with community.  The challenges of greening a desert pale in comparison to "20 people living under one roof without stabbing each other".

For the sake of this aspect, the word "community" refers to the goal of people sharing a home or homestead.  We worked on creating BBs that focus on "building community" rather than "experiencing community."  So while some of these skills could accidentally build a neighborhood community, the real focus is on the ability to re-apply these skills later to build a shared community.

The entire PEA program strives to limit the BBs to projects that could be done in a small apartment that has a lot of restrictions.  We debated whether to offer this badge because it would require finding people and bringing them together. In the end, we decided to create it because:

  - Most people pursuing PEA instead of PEP would be in a city or town.
  - People pursuing PEA1 may opt out of 4 badges.  For some people this will be their easiest badge while others may opt out of this one.
  - Community is the most challenging aspect of permaculture and the most beneficial when done well.   We want people to develop these skills early and often.

Sand
Do 4 of the following:
Any PEP Community BB done to the PEP standard
Host a gathering where at least 8 individuals attend
  - this BB can be done 3 times as long as the type of events are different
  - book club
  - Christmas party
  - pizza feed
  - potluck
  - etc
Create physical artwork to be displayed in a public location
  - At least 1.5 hours of work
  - Can be installed later for a PEP BB
Prepare something at home for a bake sale, auction, or other community event
  - Include proof it was used [Illustration of a few cupcakes on a plate]
Get a roommate
  - Prove the person moved in
  - Describe how you found that person and why you think they’ll be a good fit
  - Not a family member
Have a roommate for 8 months
  - This could be a “gimmie” for a lot of people
  - Assigned dorms, spouses and “shacking up” counts
  - Needs to be the same person for the whole 8 months
  - Not a family member
  - Proof will be the greatest challenge of this BB
One of the following:
  - A Youtube/Vimeo/Storyfire/Bitchute/etc channel with at least 4 videos focused on aspects of permaculture or homesteading
      - More than 100 views each
  - A Blog/website about permaculture or homesteading topics
      -  At least 10 entries and 1000 pageviews total
  - Create an engaging and informative Permies post
      - At least 100 replies

Ideas:
Create a co-operative art project. A group works together on a single project.
Work as a group on a volunteer service project that takes over X work-hours.  (food bank, senior center activity, create care packages for kids in foster care, litter patrol, write letters to service members or veterans...)
Go gleaning with a group. Gather a total of X pounds of fruit or vegetables that would otherwise spoil in place.
Create a food drive(s), collecting a total of X pounds.
