hugelkultur in Pots and boxes?

Since I live in a student flat share at the moment I would like to start raised beds in smalish boxes that in case of a move can come with me. I was wondering does the hugel culture principle work on such small spaces and be at all benefical? Kind of a babyhugel ? If there is an obvious answer to this please bare with me I am in the rather adventurous but exiting stage of just finding out about all this.

Erik Markov, from here at Permies, got me started with hugelpots. So far I am having great success with them indoors and out. Because of my circumstances, I have used branchpots.

We use wood chips in pots and raised beds. We just layer the wood chips fairly thick on the bottom of the pot or container. Depends on how large the pot is. Then, we mix more wood chips with the soil and sometimes put more wood chips on top. Using wood chips also helps reduce the weight of the pot and makes it easier to move as needed.

We have a similar situation, I want to hugel-ize a planter 36'L X 4'W X 2'D. I have access to huge mounds of composting power company trimmings. Right now, I am kinda leaning toward using that, and some old rotten logs we have around. Use the chips to fill in around the big stuff. Looking for input....

Sophia I am doing hugelkultur in pots, in a flat container 80cm x 40cm x 20cm deep, with a log of wood and branches. It creates beautiful growth. but I had to move it outdoors because indoors the mold was growing over the soil surface and also created many mosquitos, because of the organic matter decomposing.

Maybe indoors you can do hugelkultur in a small pot, to not attract so much mold or mosquitos. But plant-wise it works very good.
