I too loved the idea of a geodesic dome right until I realized that they were not that practical and had lots of potential problems .
As you correctly identified in my opinion water collection would require a novel solution. That's engineering speak for WTF do we do . ?
A box is much simpler although I admit not as attractive solution.
I know some folks who tried this in the North east of the UK . They did not sell too well maybe because folks stopped eating them after the big myxamatosis plagues in the 60s and 70s and never got back in the habbit . Here in France its still quite popular I can even buy rabbit sausages :-)
I go on Facebook I have a tough skin from my political posting ( anti Zionist and socialist ), every time it's reasonable I post a link to Permies I don't go on to push Permies just when something comes up like today someone asked about Hugleculture so I linked to the forum :-) every day spread the news a little
Did you see that song I mentioned your name in the comments Paul? Wish I knew how to post stuff on Permies from FB
Also I dislike such open questions can we all agree what makes a good Permaculture leader? I doubt we could all agree on how to make a cup of tea :-)
I think this discussion needs to be clear about a couple of differences between the european and american situation . Its is not common in european situations that you can offset charitable contributions against a proportion of your tax whilst I am told that is the case in the USA also there is no demand to pay for medical bills as the europeans have mostly universal coverage
Although they are making a big song and dance this is nothing new :-) I WWII the Brits and the USA scoured the world looking for new strains of penicillin bacteria to improve production of this new wonder drug, soils , moldy bread and rotten fruit all over the world were tested.
As someone who has moved many a washing machine in my time I can tell you they weigh a F@@@@&&& tonne . Do you really need one in your home 24/7 can you build a tiny home plus a shed for storage that would include stuff like your washing machine
Do you have any local friends whose peaches survive better ? Not all peaches are the same .Could you top graft those onto your trees ?
Here in France I grew some peaches from stones and this year I will be having someone to show me how to graft a local type onto them so I will get some fruit .
How about the idea that we have to accept no one is perfect , they just have to be good enough .
I have seen issues where some people expect leaders to be perfect and then get very upset when they are not and the leader is then portrayed as being the devil himself or at least his brother in law.
When the reality the leader has not changed at all .
I went on a basket making cource It was cool I made my own basket . Here in France vannery as its known is quite common and often folks appear at fairs selling stuff some of them are gypsies who go from town to town selling stuff . I have planted some willon too but its going to be a while before It grows big enough to use :-)
Meanwhile I am looking out for tools to collect and use .
I particularly like the idea of fish traps
I know of case recently where five families in the south of france , city dwellers kept a cow together on their allotments :-) respect but alas illegal , I am told they kept it a year before someone told the authorities . wtg
I live in France where raw milk is available all over the place at every supermarket . Cheese made with raw milk is regarded as a national asset .
This report seems to me flawed in that it is a future prodiction that never happened .
I look forward to eating riz au lait tomorrow with confidence as I did before I read such propaganda.
You guys have no idea how much us Europeans laugh that the USA bans raw milk and kinder eggs yet allows guns .
Buy a bike , rent truck
Unless you are moving every few weeks or so .
Cost of renting truck per day hundreds
Cost of owning truck per year thousands
:-) thats my simplistic view .
Does not mattter what type of truck still thousands when you take into account buying it ,depreciation, insurance ,maintenance, fuel . The only way it would make sence is you could rent it out yourself :-) and that's a worry paper chase and time suck
Some one I think it was Chris mentioned a mobile cidery ,in France they take things even further . I know a mobile distillery :-) now that is cool but alas now illegal .
I don't think this is a mad idea farmers regularly share equipment like combines here in France as they don't need them 24/7 and they cost big monies . Why not buy a mobile set up together and slot time between the producers every producer trained to use the machines ?
Every producer can either sell their stuff or the cooperative that owns the mill can also be the lable to sell the produce
In france we have
Haricots nains filet et mangetout - French bean eat whole (bush )
Haricot nain à écosser - French bean eat bean (bush )
Haricot à rame mangetout - French bean climbing eat whole
Haricot à rame à écosser - French bean climbing eat bean
Haricot d'Espagne Butter bean ? Lima bean ?
Fève Broad bean lima bean ?
As Robert suggested above are you sure you want this fifth one that could end up taking all the growth and since it's of unknow heritage .... You could end up with ?
Or you could let it flower first, quince flowers are much later than pear plus pear are white and small ,quince are a delicate rose and spiral like Californian poppys shape at first not sure about Asian pear flowers
