Sarah Theo wrote:Is there an option to pledge/pay $100 with 0 shipping for 0 physical
Yes. If you don't want any physical copies, just select Virgin Islands, U.S. as the "Shipping Destination" when you make your pledge. Your shipping fees will be reduced to zero.
and then I can pledge $15 ($40 with shipping) for one physical book.
Yes, but you'll need to use a different Kickstarter "account" (with a different email address) for this one. One Kickstarter "account" cannot have two different pledges for the same Kickstarter at the same time.
Shawn Klassen-Koop wrote:Can someone who has actually done this verify?
After you came up with the idea I did a bit of testing. There's no way for a single Kickstarter account to record two pledges for the same Kickstarter, so if you want to make two pledges you need two accounts. Each Kickstarter account can be accessed via either an email address or a Facebook account. One email address can only be used to log into one account, so a person wanting to make two pledges needs to use either two different email addresses, or one email address and one Facebook account, or two different Facebook accounts.

That's great news. I can't imagine how you make money after paying for all the bonuses. Must be a sweet deal maker.
When the dust settles might be time for a debriefing podcast, if people what to hear about those details.
I am wondering tho, for someone keen on dominating the world, its strange to see soo many American only stretch goals. The majority of the 'world' lays beyond America's borders ya know... (this is actually making me a bit sad and disappointed).
I don't think trips to Wheaton Labs are American only but the Retirement book sure is.
As a Canadian I can understand feeling a tiny bit left out.
But I accept that some stretch goals will not appeal to everyone. I upgraded from 25 to 100 when the bonuses outweighed the $75usd increase. And did they ever!
Also, bonused to the Lab keep more money in projects that I want to see documented there. It could be the main reason about 1000 of us support all his kickstarters in the first 48 hours.

The trick is that the major expense is not in shipping the books to Paul. I'm driving them to him. The big expense is shipping that signed copy across the ocean. The unsigned copies will be printed one at a time overseas. And there is no way to get those ones signed.
Oh I see, it's print on demand. Can you send a digital signature, with a personalized message for each, as part of the print file? Not as nice as hand drawn ink but it's good enough for Margaret Atwood. ;)
I hope you don't have trouble with customs at the US boarder while carrying all those books. I had trouble coming home from US with a few books from a conference. My fault for not declaring them.
can I pledge on the 25$ tier but pay 100$ if I want just 2 books but still get all the stretch goals of the 100$ tier?
That international shipping is brutal. At the $25 level the shipping is $30 and at the $100 level the shipping is $75.
One of the things that might not be obvious is that for the $100 level there is double shipping. One charge for shipping books that we had printed, one at a time, in europe (or australia) and one charge for shipping the signed book from the US. So now we are looking at $30 twice. $60.
Please don't intentionally make more work for us.
That's such a large expense this stretch goal has placed on you. I wonder if the publisher can send you just the book covers for signing. Then you send them back for binding.
I just cringe at money being diverted from important projects on The Lab.
Mike Jay wrote:Rudy, when you look at My Stuff, is there a spot that says "DM threads - gifts I manage"? If so, that's where they should be.
Mine only shows the first 5 tabs.
Maybe my gift codes where sent before this option was activated.
I'll check again after this kickstarter ends.
And I still have my original gift codes in my email archive for now. Thanks everyone
And on that note: where are people holding there gift codes? I leave mine in the email where they arrived, but that seems risky.
Rudy, I'm just guessing on this as I don't actually have any gift codes, but from the last kickstarter that supported as well I got access to a ton of great digital stuff. At first I was saving it in the email, wondering how long until I lost it. Then I realized that if I clicked on the "my stuff" button at the top of the permies forums page it would take me to a page with all my stuff. I'm betting gift codes will be there. Of course someone who really knows should probably confirm this. :)
That would be a great idea, but I dont see them in MyStuff.
BUT! Check this out! Shawn has come up with a totally legit clever thing that is respectful to everybody and everything gets processed properly en masse! With two credit cards, buy stuff at the $25 with one (selecting your proper shipping destination), and then buy stuff at the $100 level with the other (selecting “virgin islands” for shipping). You actually end up with two extra books and double the stuff at the $1 and $5 levels. And you saved $20! (but you don’t get a signed copy - something that always seemed a bit weird to me anyway)
I don't have 2 credit cards, but I do have 2 emails.
And I did use them to have 2 Kickstarter accounts one time, for ... reasons. Paid with my single credit card.
Yours is a good enough work around but can we find another solution for next time?
Like, pay full shipping but get a Permies gift certificate for the unused portion. Maybe in the fom of PIE that can be exchanged with other Permies.

In the time the Kickstarter has been up, I have saved enough to also support at the $60 level (more books!) Can i support at two different levels?
You can create a second Kickstarter account for a second pledge. I think you might need a second email to keep them separate.
That would give you up to 36 ebooks for $100, and up to 18 more ebooks for the extra $60.
And double the candy.
If you had PayPal or Interac E-transfers, you could pre-sell some of your gift codes for $40 and get the $200 PDC/ATC reward. But then you'd only get max 36 ebooks. And no extra candy.
Just some options :)

I backed at the Glory level-so I have 11 physical (keeping one for myself!)and 35 Ebooks (ditto) to gift.
I believe the Glory level is :
12 books OR 36 ebooks OR 3 ebooks for each physical book you refuse.
Full shipping charges if you order any physical books.
I'm going for all ebooks and no shipping charges.
bernetta putnam wrote:I wanted to do the $80 donation for all ebooks, but you still have to pay extra for the shipping? can I pay you somewhere else? and you apply it to the kickstarter yourself? thxs
When you make your pledge, kickstarter asks for you credit card info and shipping info. It is here you click Virgin Islands as your country and the shipping charge magically becomes zero.
This was the solution since the last Kickstarter, and I don't understand it, but can confirm it works.
Paul or Shawn, please correct this explanation if necessary.
If I click the PIE link at the top of the forums, it takes me to my PIE console with a list of all PIE
I've given and received.
After all my pie has expired, that same link brings me to this page: https://permies.com/forums/pie/list But it just shows the price of pie and a link to buy more. The history portion is gone.
Thank you for the "Rocket Oven" Piece of Pie.
One thing to note is that the Pie dashboard, listing all my pie history, is not accessible when the pie expires.
Not a deal breaker, but a little odd. I guess I'll just get me another helping of Pie.
I find you can't go wrong with stir fry.
Anything like onion, tomato, herbs, and tons of greens including edible weeds get chopped.
With a microwaved potato, and seasoned oil as a base it is very, satisfyingly simple.
I like the concept that the best place to store water is in living soil. I run extra downspout to a pit dug into my hugelkutur bed. It is filled with branches to prevent erosion from heavy rain. The bed is heavily mulched to reduce evaporation. I get about 200 gallons per inch of rain, and the hugelkutur bed takes it all.

when the dvds are printed and headed my way, then I will activate the thing on kickstarter that says "you have 48 hours to put in any address changes". This will give people the opportunity to change their address to "WDG" or away from WDG or whatever. Once the 48 hour period is past and all addresses are locked down, that will be the moment I currently intend to fill out pie and wdg stuff.
PIE -- instead of shipping me stuff, please give me permies.com PIE which comes with a collection of goodies. US people get two pieces of PIE ($6 value), and non-US people get 12 pieces of PIE ($30 value)
Is there an ETA for the PIE reward, or have they been sent already? Thank you.
So now i have the PIE icon to be able to give PIE to nice people who write great posts. Must be my reward from the recent Kickstarter.
But how do I keep track of how many slices I currently have?
I checked "My Stuff" and "My Profile" with no luck". Thanks
Mobile view was my problem. There was no " my stuff". I hope that helps others.
When using my old Android phone, if I select the "My Profile" button at the bottom, then I can see the "My Stuff" button at the top.
Does that work on anyone elses mobile?
Desktop view is too tiny for me to read.
