Not the same as they used to be. I don't remember the days of steam but I do remember the class 26 on the West Highland line. Ruth and I used to know the timetable off by heart whenever we went there. Some of the scenery is very picturesque, e.g. Helensburgh to Crianlarich (pronounced Cree....) and some of it particularly near Currour (first u very short, second syllable rhymes with power) is very bleak. It is single track so the trains have to “cross” at stations. On one occasion our train stopped twice at the same station (Arrochar. Pronounced with accent on the first A), the second time so the brake with our bicycle would be on the platform. In those days Arrochar had a strange Alpine‑chalet‑style station building roofed with green tiles on its island platform, but I believe it is no longer there.
