I would like to do something very much like what you have with no barrel, so wondering if the draw would be good, and if it would heat well if it had maybe a 3/4 inch plate on top i guess more like a cook stove. the 3 down runs of 2"x 6" would be on the 2 side and back of the chimney and would keep the heat around that. also wondering if i need to insulate the chimney as much as the heat will be going down around it, all but the front .

Hi Gail; Sounds like you should check out dragon heaters, they make a 6" masonry stove that has a small footprint that may be what you are wanting. Here is a picture of my rmh in the greenhouse, has a 55 gal barrel that you don't want, but does have lots of brick mass.

Hello all first time post for me, have been reading many post and learning alot about rocket stoves. I have build a 6" rocket stove with a 55 gal barrel out side to learn and test on. I would like to build a new rocket Heater inside with no barrel, with a mass bench or maybe a bell type chimney that will be a 6" system. Thinking of putting a steel plate on the top of the stove and turning the exhaust down thru 3 runs that will measure 2"x6" toward the floor then go into the mass bench. This will be all built with fire bricks and finished with ether brick or stone. Just wondering how this will perform as a heater system , has anyone done this, is there any pic of such a system. I would like to keep the stove as small as possible but still work well. Thanks for any info on this.
