Jason Elliott : If i as lucky enough to be in your shoes, I would goto> rocketstoves.com to Download a PDF Copy $15.00 of Ianto Evans' Great Book 'Rocket Mass Heaters',
and print up a dozen copies To pass out to my co-workers, you are Definitely in a very good place to find people who have the background to quickly grasp the Rocket mass heater
RMH concept.
There is an old rule about peoples talents and skills directing their lives, - " To a man with a hammer, all problems are nails ! I am sure ten minutes into the conversation you will
hear them talking about building RMHs with steel Point them to any article on High Temperature Hydrogen attack, and then send them here !
Where Ceramic Insulation can be placed outside of the light weight fire bricks to Refract or more simply, reflect most of the heat energy back into the combustion chamber, it can
not be asked to do more than support its own mass, as compression reduces both its insulative properties and its Refractory ones too !
By all means, do not let them throw away any scraps, such materials are valuable to all Rocketeers !
Come back here often and bring friends, If there is a rocket in your future we will help you find IT ! BIG AL

Okay thanks, I'm new to the rocket mass heater "party" and was asking about ceramic insulation (didn't it was used in the heater build), because we use a lot of it where I work and I can probably get some for a decent price.

Jason Elliott : Somewhere around R- 60 you can heat a house with a candle* ! Take your preferred type of insulation, find its R-Value per inch and go from there !
The reason we like Ceramic Materials is not because they are (just) good insulators, but because of the large amount of heat energy they re-radiate back into the
combustion chamber, This gives us a hotter fire, hence more efficient, and protects other materials from being degraded by those high temperatures!
For the price dry dirt can not be beat for use as a general insulation as long as you use enough of it, and protect it from absorbing water vapor, and protect the structure
thus insulated from the weight load that must be carried by the insulated structure ! I hope this was timely and helps ! For the Craft !

Would one of these RMH heat and entire 2000sf strawbale house? Would it be of any benefit to use ceramic insulation?
