Walnuts over here in France can get pretty big and last a couple of hundered years I dont see many in damp areas althought this could be because they will grow once established in dry areas as their roots are very deep.

Has anyone grown English Walnuts on their own roots? I'm air layering a couple trees. I'm having trouble finding much information about what soil conditions they need on their own roots. The most convenient place to plant one of them is
a bit wet. I would say pecan would love it, American walnut would be fine, most peach rootstocks couldn't take it. It wouldn't be in a puddle but on a small mound mostly surrounded by low ground that holds water an extra day or so.

Also, will the final size of the tree be the same as with a blackwalnut rootstock?
