Updating on this--I didn't mean to exclude Japanese or Chinese chestnuts completely, I just don't know how long they live.  I imagine they could be multigenerational for our great great grandchildren, if anyone has any more info on this I'd appreciate it.  I haven't been able to find out.  And anyway, in the meantime, since I don't know one way or another, I'm happy to see any kind of chestnut at all and I'll assume the best.  (Above all I'm not trying to be anti-Chinese chestnut here, I just don't know.  The ideal would be for the indigenous chestnut to make a return, but I'll take any kind of chestnut.)

And I realize I only am willing to commit to doing this once a year (one $20 pledge per year).  2020's chestnut pledge has been claimed and sent.

I am willing to give an Alexander Technique learning session instead, up to 5 per year (one for each planting).

Thanks!

Offer: I can offer an Alexander Technique Body-mind Education session of 1 hour by video (or in person if you somehow wind up in Boston)  I will make my schedule available, and am quite able to be flexible to accommodate an Ant or Boot's time needs.  Alexander Tehcnique helped Victornix (Swiss Army knives) manufacturing plant workers increase productivity by %40 while reducing injuries.  It is permaculture principles applied to the self.  I would love to offer money but have to focus my monetary resources at this time.

Project: plant one chestnut tree (European, American back-bred, or straight American) each year at the Lab.  The goal is to have a 600-year-old tree in 600 years, or at least a 300-year-old one in 300 years.  So varieties that have never been observed to have lived that long are not OK for this project.

Offer: $20 per planting, for 10 years, and I'll ship you the chestnut in husk if you want, though I admit I have yet to find a source after a bunch of searching so you might have better luck looking yourself.  No need to hardware cloth it or deerproof it, just plant it however you desire, "sheer total utter neglect" is fine.  If the rodents eat it it wasn't meant to be.  I'm putting $20 in an envelope right now.

Project: photograph the temperatures in a wofati with a still camera, at random times of day, daily, for one year.  Set up a thermometer and point a camera or a phone camera at it.  (turn off everything else on that phone, especially the cellular data feature and the service, so it's only recording a file).  Battery will have to be recharged every week, probably, or else run off a really little solar panel.

Comment: Can Bill, or someone, set up an escrow account for money pledges?
So that the Boots or Ants or others can have more certainty that people will make good on their pledges, you could request that the I'd suggest that money be put into an escrow account of someone who is physically present (I gather that's Bill, if not then maybe Paul or Jocelyn or Fred would be willing to handle that).  I'm willing to do the work myself but you don't know me and I'm 2000 miles away.

I'm still not sure I get the biological reverse kickstarter concept here...my apologies if I'm missing the point.

Hi Nicole,

I will pledge $11 for each onsite boot who chooses to create and add (monthly) to an entirely fictional story of boot life.  Something like a permies version of "The Very Secret Diaries" http://www.ealasaid.com/misc/vsd/

On scraps of paper write places, items, names, actions (permaculture related at boot camp), and connecting words.  Put in separate containers.

At the end of a day, (perhaps monthly?), each participating boot blindly draws a paper from each container, then creatively forms the best possible sentence.  If needed, up to three words not in the containers can be used if needed to form an intelligible sentence, or to make it more fun.

A volunteer boot writes the sentences in a text document.  Saves it as a pdf file.  Emails(?) that to whomever can add a link to the boot love page, or in a thread in the mindless drivel forum?  Not sure where the best place is, or the best way to share.

An additional $1 for puns.

An additional $10 if a boot creates a catch phrase that becomes humorously repetitious like "Sam will..." or "that's what s/he said" that becomes a fun reference at Wheaton Labs.

Perhaps another contributor can offer something similar with Ant Love?

Why 11?  It's a master number.  Why a fictitious story?  Because levity is a vital component of constructive entropy.

If something above is unclear, just say.  Just made this up as I wrote so it may not be entirely worked out :.)

That being said... did you just miss a couple days here and there? Or were there big long gaps? I hardly think the limits need to be super stringent.

Hi Kyle,

I was trying to do weekend but with being off site on weekends it was hard to post. (no weekend)
Monday-Friday I post photos. But if weekends are need I get that.

Thank-you Kyle

Hi all! We realized that the Biological Reverse Kickstarter might have been a bit overwhelming and confusing for some people, so I went through and removed the artifacts that had no pledges and organized everything to make it--hopefully--a bit easier to navigate. Tell me what you think!!!

Also, we've made a simplified, special Biological Reverse Kickstarter JUST for Boots! It has it's own special page HERE (and it's also mentioned at the top of this thread). We're really hoping this will make it really easy for prospective Boots to see what is offered and get excited about the Bootcamp program!

I'll commit $100 for the first to make pep1. Deadline of Dec 31, 2019. Is that timeframe realistic? I'll likely extend it, but want choice to extend it or not. Things can change in a year.....

It looks like Robbie has well over exceeded 90 days of posting for this reward

First Boot to post a pic a day for 90 days
One handmade fairy/elf in your choice of colors, design, etc (see examples here)--from Nicole Alderman
    $100 --from Tyler Ludens
    $100 --anon963
    $500 --Kyle Neath

I'm working on Robbie's fairy. I think those who pledged money can get it to Robbie by either mailing a check or using paypal, right Robbie?

and he's also earned this one!

First Person to make at least one post a week about their life/work on wheaton labs during 3 consecutive months  (Post can be text only, but I like to see some pictures or even videos now and then).
    a hand-knitted wool hat/ cap - Inge Leonora-den Ouden
(size, colour and other specifications of the hat to be sent)

Inge has already gotten in contact with Robbie about that, too.

Are there any other pledges that I have missed, that Robbie has earned?

This has gone pretty well, with 4 awarded so far.   I don't want it to end! There are still two slots open in the boot program, and possibly more people will be having a stay at the Labs once the weather gets warmer.  So I want to recharge this bounty by  adding 5 more instances of it to the bounty list.

If you're new to all this, look at the top post on page one of this tread for details.  Note that this is one of the few bounties that can be done on your first day at Wheaton Labs, and even by short-term residents.

Numbers upped to have "6" instances now!!

The Paypal thing is a new policy of theirs regarding "wallets" and how money is handled. Apparently I have to provide proof of PHYSICAL residence vice my mailing information. Fun, as I am on the road.
