I drink different ones throughout the day. Green tea  and black tea are my daily favorites for their antioxidants. But, recently ginger/lemon herb tea.  Also rooibos sometimes. Peppermint tea is good for digestion.  A little almond milk, but no sweetener.

The Mediterranean and DASH diets combined, called the MIND diet, is supposed to help decrease memory/cognitive problems. Healthy fats are included in this. What helps your heart stay healthy  generally helps keep your mind healthy, too, they're linked.

It's hard to get enough Vit. D from foods alone. I take a supplement, 5000 IU per day and my last D reading was 85. This lab said under 100 was good. The "right" D level seems to be a controversial, depends on who/what you are reading. Years ago, I thought 2000/day  was enough, but my blood level was about 22 and I lived in Arizona at the time, definitely  was deficient.

I went to an anthroposophic MD years ago and she put me on a 21 day fast, which I kind of did, but cheated, too, w/ broths, etc. It was to cure a condition, which it did, but along w/ other things, so who knows what did what. I wouldn't do it again. I think overnight "fasts" are probably healthy for most people though. No food for 12 or so hours after dinner until breakfast next day. It's individual, though, the same things don't work for everyone.

An allergist I once went to said most people w/ allergies (not the milder kind) grew up in early environments where the homes were cleaned too much. He particularly meant dust, etc. Vacuuming too often, dusting too often, etc. Your body doesn't get enough opportunity to recognize allergens which you can produce antibodies against.

Adequate fluids, hydration. Watch protein intake, too much can make kidneys work harder. Keep your heart healthy. Heart function and kidney function are often connected. If your heart gets weaker and is not as an efficient pump, more work for the kidneys,ie extra fluid to rid body of. I think there are hormones involved, too.

If you buy herbs, just be sure to buy from quality companies. I personally like Gaia and Herb Pharm.  If you buy from suspect companies, there could possibly be a contamination problem that could lead to liver or kidney problems. I've heard of this happening. Much of what we eat and drink is processed and eliminated through those organs. If you grow your own, then you're more sure of what they are. If you make tinctures, be sure to make them right , follow a protocol, so that mold or bacteria won't be an issue.

If you already have problems w/ your kidneys/liver, I'd be careful of anything I put in my body. Be sure to get labs once in a while to make sure your kidneys are ok. Kidney function can go down  just by aging or if a hereditary weakness exists in the family genetics. I think diet is important here, too. Liver enzymes can elevate sometimes for no sure reason.  They should be followed up on, too, though just to be sure there's nothing serious going on w/ the liver.

Herbal Academy in Massachusetts is a good school to learn from if you want more formal studies.  I've taken one course from them and plan on another this fall. There are exams at the end of units, but I think optional, not sure though.  Very methodical and the information is enough, but not too much, just the right amount. I spent maybe 10 hours/week on studying, etc. so okay that way, too.

I think it's so dependent on one's unique constitution and family genetics.  Some things are probably "bad" though, trans fats, too much sugar, too much sodium and although somewhat controversial, I think too much saturated fat. I follow heart health guidelines via Cleveland Clinic, etc. and most of their thinking is that sat. fats should be limited. I do dairy, but low fat. Don't miss beef, pork or turkey. I eat a little fish and chicken, but could easily ditch it someday.  I think certain vitamins, supplements and herbs help our health, too.   Other lifestyle factors are equally important in keeping healthy, exercise, stress reduction and paying attention to our emotional /psychological health which impacts our overall health.
