Yes, the government purchased the property and then removed the homesteaders using fear and with force.    They also burned their belongings and didn't give many of them time to remove their stuff.    The idea of providing for ones self is so foreign to most people that you get looked at like an alien or outcast.  #0 years is a long time for a community to last perhaps their model of sharing with each other can be used on a purchased piece of land.
my wife has it on the shelf in the kitchen.  another good book.

Has anyone watched the Sombrio beach documentary.  Basically about 20 squatters living a subsistence lifestyle while surfing and raising children at sombrio beach, until the Canadian government wanted to turn the beach into a park. One family raised 10 kids there.  The community was there over 30 years 1960 to 1997!  Just Google [sombrio trailer] to get a glimpse.
Has anyone mentioned that RMH stoves are for heating people not air?  Typicaly we heat air in a house not the objects in the house that people touch or sit on or sleep on etc.  Its simple you sit on the heater and your body is warmed no matter what the air temp.  Ianto at cob cottage told me they use about 2 cords a winter down there for the 2 or 3 residents at cobville in a normal winter.  Lindas House about 400 sqf Iantos old house, jaba the hut 80 sqf and the myrtle about 200 sqf.  finnish masonry heaters also work on the principal of mass, they just dont burn at 2000 degrees.  my 2cents

my wife and I would be interested! We currently live in a small cabin on a trailer frame in Cobble Hill Vancouver Island BC, so we are mobile.    I am an American waiting for my permanent residency papers, takes about a year .   My wife is Canadian.    We are both gardeners she, 20 years, myself as a child and the last 4 years.   I am a carpenter with 25 years experience and a natural builder Cob, straw bale, stone etc.   We would prefer staying on the island but are open to ideas.
