rg, thank you so much for your timely post.

After seeing the video a few months ago, I bought some tubing and set up a bunyip using 6' metal fence posts that were at the farm. This was just a very quick set-up to show the idea to Sis and BIL when they made a trip down to help put everything up for the year. We took some time to look at contour in the camping area and talked about what modifications would have to happen before spring. On my list of things to do today is pick up an extra few 2X4's and make sure the wood-burning set is handy. After marking a couple of 2X4's I plan to split them down the middle. That way each set will match. We discussed using some sort of spike to make it easier for me to use the level when I'm alone. The step on plastic posts look like a low tech way to handle that, at least initially.

I need bunyips not so much (initially) for finding level, as to map out the hillside where I plan to build. Slope in the area is as much as 30% and the length (I bought 40') will be welcome. The RV antifreeze is also a great idea that hadn't come to me yet, but I have some in the garage. The pink should show up well against the snow, or years of leaf duff (if the snow still doesn't happen for a while).

Firstly, I have complied.

Secondly, I thought long and hard about the requirement before coming back to the website after the software change that locked me out for two weeks in the fall. Paul, thanks again for your help in getting me back in contact with my account here.

I have only 15 years worth of exposure on the internet. I'm not a programmer, or in business where I felt my "real" name needed to be a public commodity. I have used the same identity across the years, through several ISP addresses and many websites. I am known by that name, which does not break down into a first name and last name, but identifies me around the world.

I like Permies. I like it a lot. I want to be able to link to all the great and wonderful information I see here and make it available to people I know.

But in some of the places I might offer a link there are people that I do not want to be able to look me up in the phone book or Google my address. For that reason, and that reason alone, my ability desire to share Permies information with the world has now been curtailed in some areas.

I have my fingers crossed that by the time I make the physical move and want to use the computer at the farm, the wireless access touted by the state is actually available in the area. The closest neighbor has had to use satellite internet for several years. It is very slow, only a limited amount of bandwidth available and doled out in monthly allotments, and terribly expensive to boot.

What a beautiful photo of your pond, Cj. By the time ours is in place for 30 years I hope it looks as beautiful.

Thanks so much for the links. I hadn't considered the market for folks who smoke their own meats and I don't Ebay, so I had no idea that a chunk of air dried wood was so potentially rewarding! The good news is that I probably can't use all the timber we will have to remove over the next few years. This points up a potential income stream.

I would suggest you think about adding your shredded paper to the mulched area. You don't really want all that personal data (even shredded) going into the trash or recycle for someone else to get their hands on, do you? ~~ I just suggested this to my gf who has been burning her shredded end of year records.

I can understand your feeling that tilling must happen (and maybe it must). But do you happen to have access to a football or soccer team with cleats on their shoes? I'm thinking that a dozen kids running around punching holes in the surface of that field would help somewhat.

I don't use my cell phone much, but need to keep it handy at all times. I also worry about the radiation issues and don't like doing the pocket drop thing. I tried a fanny pack with insulated sleeves, (I use a can cover in a cup holder while I drive) but the sleeves were too large so whenever I would bend over the phone would hit the ground.

I found a pouch that will hold papers (like license, a credit card and some cash) and has a pocket that is the right size for the cell phone. There is an attached "leash" with a clip on the end that makes it convenient to locate the thing when it's in my purse. When I'm at the farm the leash allows me to hang the pouch from whatever is handy to the job I'm doing. That will work well until the time I walk away and leave it hanging from a tree!

Wired headphones? I'll have to look for that.

They use an A-frame. This video might explain.

There is a high water table at the farm. In fact, a damaged county maintained drain line has kept a portion of the place from being usable until at least June each year. The beds we plan for the spring will be above ground.

I'm hoping to find a neighbor with some rocks to get rid of so I can use them in the sidewalls of the beds. Worst case scenario, the small town that I go to for major supplies has a highway that goes through a limestone hill. Sometimes there are largish chunks that have fallen loose, lying along the road. I could fill up the back of the pick-up each trip. At least until someone tells me I can't.
