This is Willow.

Born two weeks ago today, in wet 35 degree weather.  She could never stand up, mommy cow gave up and went about her business.  Seventeen circling vultures alerted me.

I picked her up, brought her inside, warmed her up, gave her colostrum & stuff, she recovered.  Doing fine, gaining weight.

All these precious, beautiful new babies!!! I'm so jealous, lol! I have 2 does that were mated - mother and daughter. The elder buck is the daughter's sire, so we got another buck. The younger pair were *supposed* to be due this month, but apparently the older two never had The Talk with the younger pair. So, I'm planning on putting those 2 back together, this weekend, and let them try again. The older doe (she's only 2) is due in late April/early May.

New to livestock. My first flock of chickens. 4 Isa Brown, 4 Wyandot chicks. My kids adore them! Too cold to have them outside, I think, so we have them inside for now. Will be tractoring in a pvc geodesic dome but also built a coop and double run for the fall.

After a mostly sleepless night on my part, my last pregnant doe delivered twin girls around 7 o'clock this morning.

About a half-hour old.

About an hour old.

First born

Second born

That gives me a final count of 4 girls and 1 boy. I'm happy with that!

After 4 years of terrible success. I finally had a good year. 2 sets of triplets and 4 sets of twins. 3 singles and I am waiting on 1 more doe to kid. She usually has twins. With 7 new doelings bouncing around and growing fast I am so happy to have a growing herd!

I felt I had to help offset the number kids in the post

I had several broody hens that were successful. On a side note... for anyone who is wondering how chickens possibly survive when they don't have the exact recommended temperature of 90F for so long, and then drop it so many degrees every few days... they survive just fine. It was 35F outside this morning, and the chicks were out and about. They would go back under mommy whenever they wanted to warm up.

Switched to lambing in May this year to align with grass growth/natural breeding period of small ruminants for peak fertility. Absolutely loving it. First triplets we've had. All doing well.
