No West Coast/CA Forum

Is there no West Coast or CA forum under "regional events, resources, jobs, opportunities, etc."?

What about "southwest usa"?

I'm glad someone else brought this up.

My area (climate, society, native ecology and weather patterns, etc) has absolutely positively nothing at all in common with, say, New Mexico besides being on the same landmass. Heck California has 11 USDA hardiness zones, and that is so inefficient that Sunset has built an empire about breaking those down into 24 zones!

I've often thought that grouping things together along obsolete boundaries is... um... obsolete. For instance, the Mississippi delineates the West and East of the US, but since bridges work quite well, that's no longer such a huge divide. As a matter of fact, both sides of the Mississippi seem to be remarkably similar in agricultural applications. So existing divisions are not very useful for me, and apparently others. The Southwest USA section of permies is so full of unhelpful stuff that it's like scrolling through TV Cable channels on a Saturday to find a Gardening show... without a Guide. Urgh. I gave up.

Unfortunately breaking all the existing divisions down into tiny microclimates is obviously untenable. If I had to pick, I'd say breaking it out by Hardiness Zone would be the most helpful system, even if a little nitpicky and obviously annoying to implement. But... perhaps there's a happy medium? Something a SMIDGE more useful?

Ah...California isn't part of the southwest - at least I've never heard a fellow California think of it as southwest. I doubt any northern California would consider themselves living in the Southwest. If people like me are looking for a forum for CA, I don't think they would even think to look there in that region folder. I request that "California" be put in the region name so that it is clear that it is meant to include CA? Would the webmaster be willing to do that?
