Duck house

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
I am planning on getting ducks next spring.

We have a large pond. My present idea is to fence in a "U" shaped  area that opens to the pond . The fenced area would be about 15 by 20 feet of land.  The housing for the ducks would be about 12 by 6 feet and would be part of one wall of the fenced area. I would close it up at night.  If this an adequate sleeping arrangement for a dozen ducks. Is this andequate amount of land? Is there anything else I need to be considering?

The standard recommendation is 4 square feet of house per duck, so your sleeping arrangement plan should be fine. A 15' x 20' outdoor area will give a dozen ducks enough space to move around a little, but they'll quickly turn it into a mud pit. I'd guess it will be part of the pond after a few months.

Hi Jake,

Thanks for the reply. It looks like I need to increase the shelter or decrease the ducks.
