Wind turbine that captures fresh water

You guys and gals may or may not have seen this, but I found a cool video of a wind turbine that collects moisture from the air. http://www.techhive.com/article/254790/this_new_wind_turbine_produces_electricity_and_water.html

This is a really cool idea, but, is there anyway we could do this using living things? If there is, I'm not aware of it! It would also be cool if someone could make one of these DIY on the cheap. I'd like to use it to fill ponds or water livestock, but the idea of irrigating in general is annoying to me.

That is pretty cool. I would love to see a "home sized" version of this.

Too bad I'm sure it will be priced out of exsistance and patented out of practical use.

a wind turbine now that you see along side the highways already cost over a half million dollars. now that it will produce water it will be more.

the video shown on the site gives good ideas of how its made and will get lots of low budget diy designers to make a version all there own from scraps and hopefully they will share their designs with the common person (the 99%) so we can afford it.

Home scale version: create power by whatever means available and install a dehumidifier.

My dehumidifier is Energy Star rated but is still power hungry. 420 Watt (nearly 10kWh a day if on all the time) can produce 40 liters a day.

The 1000 liters per hour figure, if scaled similarly to my setup, would imply that 100% of the power produced by the turbine goes to make water.

There is no free lunch. You either make water, or power, or some fraction of both.
