I have had no luck at all trying to find a 35 gallon drum (I'm from southern OH) I'm using a 55 gallon on my tester but I'm really wanting to minimize the radius of the entire set up because it will be going into a shipping container that is half finished. The space is 20'x7' and I would like to make it to where my RMH isn't taking up all of my temporary living area. Any ideas? Also as far as the stove gasket on the barrel can this be any typical stove gasket you get at Lowe's or Home Depot? I'm going to be getting fire bricks and fire clay. As I live in OH we have the clay lol so making cob shouldn't be an issue. If I'm missing and can think of it i will add later as a reply. I would love input. Thanks!

- in the old days of Nascar it was 'Run what you brung' , lets make this work! Strangely, if you take two Rocket Stove drums, and feed them equal heat through their respective Heat Risers they will, with perfectly balanced systems give off the same amount of heat. The smaller drum will just radiate it at a higher temperature . This is the same thing you notice when a young small child wants to get up in your lap and cuddle Its so enjoyable for you as their little heat engines produce a noticeable higher heat ! Its the ratio between mass and smaller surface area !

You can also set your drum onto the Rocket Stove base eccentric from the center, bench marked by the Heat Riser, the pinched side will be cooler, the 'opened' side will be hotter, allowing for the Barrel to be closer to exposures on the pinched side . As documented in Ianto Evans great book "Rocket Mass Heaters"

There is an ill-defined drum that is often called a 25 gal, 28 gal, or 30 gal, but I have never heard of a steel 35 gal drum, perhaps someone you heard misspoke, then again it could be me thats wrong! good luck Allen L.

About the gasket, Ernie Wisner who is a steward on these forum threads claims to have used hand-rolled strings of dough torn from "wonder bread ", but of course you can't get that any more ! A.L.

N Harris : Having lived in tin Boxes, I'm an expert on water vapor/condensation,unless you have a super-great air/heat exchanger Cook outdoors, eat outdoors, wash outdoors, breath outdoors ! , just be aware that the tea kettle will pump moisture into the air that will find its way to a hidden condensation point, you can even have in rain indoors and by the time this happens any thing but ridgid insulation will be 1/2 saturated !

Again been there done that , learn from my mistakes ! pyro allen

I have a 35 gallon steel drum sitting in my shop right now. It was originally filled with automotive parts cleaner. height = 33.5", Outside dia = 18.75"
