Hello Willis and welcome to Permies!

I’m nowhere near Pennsylvania, not even the United States but in Finland, so I greet you from a place far away.

I just tried to use my recently acquired superpowers to add your thread to the Introductions-Forum, I will have to check if it worked. As you are wondering if there are people near you I would add you to a regional forum too but I’m not sure which one you belong..

Wikipedia tells me that

Wikipedia wrote:Pennsylvania is a state spanning the Mid-Atlantic, Northeastern, Appalachian, and Great Lakes regions of the United States.

but there are multible options in the regional category that would fit.. Here is the Regional category, you can go look at the appropriare forum if you find any locals to you! I can add your thread to the correct regional forum too as soon as I find out what it might be.

Welcome!

Edit. The add to forum button doesn’t do anything for me, we will have to wait for someone with more powers to add your thread to the other forums.

Edit again: desktop view ”add to forum” button worked, your thread is now added to the introductions forum!

Happy to help!

When I joined Permies.com a couple of months ago I got a little overwhelmed with this place, the forums are huge! Luckily this happens to be the most awesome place you can find in the internet (my humble opinion) and there are always people helping around if feeling lost. Here is a useful page that you might have already visited, it helped me a lot in the first days and weeks:

How Permies.com works?

Did you find a match for your location from the regional category? Oh and the search engine here is great, you could go and type in your city or area and see what comes up!

Hello Willis from another not-American - I live off the West Coast of Scotland UK!
I'm guessing PA fits in Eastern US - we can move it again if I'm wrong. Thanks for adding this thread to 'introductions' Saana, that was awesome! Saves us staff some work. I've taken it out of 'pigs' too, unless you had something pig related you wanted to mention Willis?

Welcome to permies Willis.

Although the Appalachian Mountains go through PA it's generally not considered Appalachia. That is more Tennessee , Kentucky, & West Virginia. Eastern region seems appropriate.

Hi Willis - I'm now living in the city, (moved from St. Louis), and am looking to buy a house and some land somewhere nearby, if the horrible real estate bubble will subside enough for me to afford something.

Welcome to the area. Keep an eye out for something suitable, a lot of property are changing hands right now in this area.
I'm over here off I-81 exit 77, Sandy Hollow Rd.
Keep in touch
Good luck
Willis
