Someone said they would help me fundraise if I gave them a budget and a plan. I tried making a budget but got overwhelmed. I've been doing research for over a year and I feel like I'm not anywhere close to being able to survive. How much money should I ask for? I feel like for this to be realistic I need a low number. I was thinking 20,000 for the land, permits, utilities, and structure to live in. Budget 10,000 just for the land. I'm not sure how much more I should ask for building stuff, setting up food to grow, taxes, and a little survival money to pay bills, etc.

This is a sample budget I'm making, the list is just to compare different things I'm definitely not doing everything on this list. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CtxBkcLsCx54YYvJ_SH6Lf1GkSwJT7iHXa3wFiPjc_c/edit?usp=drivesdk

I'm disabled, I don't have an income. My idea is that if I can provide land and materials, maybe I could get other people to do the physical work portion. With food and shelter provided I could focus on other ways to make an income, and if that really doesn't work then I'll beg for money online and see what social services I can get.

Thoughts?

Welcome to Permies! You've picked the perfect place to discuss this and get some ideas.

Wow, impressive list there! You've got a lot of knowledge about what this kind of life will take. It would be a lifetime challenge to try to do something this scale on your own--have you thought of trying to live in this way on or near a like-minded community?

Eventually, when you are ready to do the fund-raising part, I think you will want to balance your data with a clear presentation of your intentions, hopes, and plans. People often get behind the emotional pull of helping someone achieve their dreams.

Can't wait to see where other folks point you--best wishes!

I accidentally disliked it idk how to undo that.

I want to join a community but I'm disabled and it would be hard finding a place willing to accommodate me. I'm hoping to have a community of people who can help.

Something to think about is how much land you plan to buy.  What is the going rate in your area for an acre of land?

Will the land have a well? Or will you have to dig one?

How far is the land from the nearest utility hookup?

I have no idea though I feel with the regulation today for disabled persons an IC would need to comply.

Have you checked into IC for disabled?

Try these:

There is a disability-centric community forming in .. MN I think?  I heard about it on one of the facebook intentional community groups.

The thing about the ADA is that it only works when we with disabilities are able to do lawsuits when we're not given what we need.  And most of us with disabilities don't have the warewithall to actually do that.  So people and organizations get away with breaking ADA law all the time.

Most intentional communities find ways to have certain requirements for membership that leave us out.  I don't think most of them do it with malace in their hearts, they're just not creative enough to figure out ways for us to contribute and yet still have our needs met.

So many of the folks dreaming of starting communities are those with disabilities who can't find a place to fit, so they want to create it and find others who also want that.  A friend of mine works on this off and on, hasn't gotten far yet though unfortunately.
