The 2024 harvest is now in the
books. Since She Who Must Be Obeyed wanted to weigh the beans in the end to see how things went, so I thought I'd attempt to document it.
We had a total of 11 varieties. The heirloom seed company I purchase from tends to add a free packet on larger orders based on what you ordered. The first year it was a tomato. This year it was a bean. Our average frost-free period is 115 days and frost-free doesn't mean warm
enough to plant beans so my primary selection is based on time to harvest and my secondary selection is based more on appearance - that is, fun-looking beans.
The last of the pods dried and we put everything together. Out of curiosity, she wanted to know how much we harvested based on how much was planted - some of the packets were 25 seeds and most were 50. This morning we had a weigh-in, which then
led to me working on a spreadsheet (it isn't like there aren't a bunch of other things that
should be a higher priority for my time - in my defence, I did clean and slice a bunch of tomatoes this morning and got the dehydrators going)...rabbit holes R us.
I took over the weighing after she struggled with hitting the wrong button to tare the scale and turning it off instead.
