Also the Fruit? pods are relatively small about the size of a large thumb. They just appeared in the past couple of weeks. There are also thorns protecting this tree. It sheds its leaves in the winter.

When we had a jujube tree the deer ate the fruit and we never got any until it got too tall and they couldn't reach a few. They are delicious!

Could it be some kind of quince? Have you looked at Identification Keys for different quinces?
