Probably like most people here I came around to permaculture via a long road. Grew up in rural area but never was interested in farming or gardening, helped relatives with their Nursery was my extent, and I would help with farm chores (feeding cattle etc.). Zoom forward to about 2009, family and I move back to our home area. I survived the 2008 workforce reduction and I wake up from my zombie sleep, no more sheeple. I start my education in to self-reliance and self-sufficiency. I stumble across an old guy that does raised beds in Arkansas. Created my first compost growing media from Rice Hulls, Sphagum Peat Moss, Cotton Burr Compost. This turns out to be the easiest garden I grew. More learning and research...come across this Podcast by a guy named Jack Spirko...I hear him talk about hugelkultur and permaculture. More reading and listening.

Been trying to convince the wife to plant edible stuff instead of pretty stuff...she says well you should have thought of that before we bought the house. Like we can't move or something?? Still working on her.

So between making sure the pantry is stocked when the crap hits the fan I am learning about permaculture and other related topics. RHM videos are on my list...I got a permaculture book to read too.

Unlike Paul I am still a slave to the IT paycheck, DB2 DBA, looking for a way out...probably like he mentioned in one of his podcasts about buying a small chunk then slowly over time adding to it. Wife is a stay at home mom with RN/BSN. We buy 1/2 steer from local farmer every spring but I doubt it is completely organic/grassfed...

Hopefully I will be able to add to the discussion...been trying to catch up on podcasts from Paul. I listen while working or commuting so that helps. No PDC classes yet...not sure if I can swing that for a while.

Raised rabbits for 1/2 year but got rid of them...

Well I figured I better support the empire by listening to podcasts 1-40...this way I won't ask a question that will drive Paul nuts...like something about the book Humanure or some other topic that he has covered a billion times already...LOL.

Howdy E, welcome to permies, thanks for supporting the empire !

Don't worry about asking questions, I have been gardening for 50 years and there are so many things here that I am learning about. I ask all sorts of questions.
