Many years ago a bunch of guys I worked with suggested we go out for lunch.  They decided we should go to the acropolis.  I had never had greek food before.

I had a gyro, greek fries and a cherry coke.  It was so good I had another gyro.

I went back there for dinner and had the same thing.

I ate the same thing every lunch and dinner for two weeks.  And then I moved so I could be closer to the restaurant.  I ate there so often that the owner (Eva - very greek) would give me free baklava.

So good.

And then I moved.

And then I came back.  I went there within hours of getting into town.

Different owners.  It just doesn't seem the same.  The gyros are pretty good - the greek fries are .... different.  Most of the time I go there, it seems they have some college kids running the joint.

Ambrosia is pretty good.  About on par with acropolis.

But!  #1 gyro is my new favorite!  Their gyros and greek fries are excellent!  And they easily have the best spanakopita.

I recently needed to find buckets for a project and I asked all three for buckets.  Ambrosia sells theirs for $3.50.  Acropolis sells their for $2.50, but they gave me two for free anyway.  And #1 gave me two for free with never a mention of any price.

I feel a deep loyalty to the acropolis - a lot of really good memories there.  And yet my taste buds seem to steer me to #1.

Oh man! I was going to suggest #1 Gyros before I even read past the third sentence. haha. And now we find out that they are generous as well.

...This site is starting to sound a little bit like an advertising campaign for our favorite places.  Is that okay??

I'm at #1 right now.  Without my even asking, they remembered me and brought out two more buckets.

It definitely feels a lot like home here.

Where is #1 Gyro?  I tend to end up at the mall for my gyro fix more often than not.  I wish I could order about 20 pounds of that meat to freeze and use at my discretion haha.

#1 gyro is across the street from the orange street food farm.  On fifth.

The last time I was at #1, we visited about lots of things.  I like it there more and more.  It feels a bit like home away from home.

this must be across from the old buttrey's grocery!  you used to just go to the back door to buy baklava, which was all they were selling when i lived on south second west.  anyone remember mario's greek restaurant?  if you went in the back to say hi to mario, everyone was eating mexican food.  i always thought he should have started a mexican restaurant.  there was belly dancing at mario's, and my ex used to fall asleep (read pass out) at the table which was really embarrassing.  they had great lemon oregano chicken livers.  i don't eat meat any more.
