Generator motor

Hello all, I'm in the process of building a generator and am needing some advice.. I have the gen head already (15kw 4pole) and am needing a motor to turn it. I want a diesel so I can run it as cheaply as possible on wvo, wmo, bio, ect what recommendations do you all have...

You would need at least a 20 HP engine, so many engines are available. (750 watts per horsepower). Kubota is a nice small sized engine that can be found in many applications besides their tractors (welders, compressors, etc). Refrigerator trailers for tractor trailers use diesel engines to cool the reefer box as they are called and would work well in your application. They can be found at salvage yards or used trailer places.

By Bio, I assume you mean biodiesel because if you want to run biogas, you would be better off with a gasoline engine. They can be converted to run on biogas very easily. In fact I have a 1943 3 KW 3 phase generator that can be run on gasoline or propane (biogas).

Thank you. I have a semi truck salvage right down the road from me so that works out perfectly. Are the Kubota motors water or air cooled?

Yes I do mean biodiesel I may eventually try my hand at it just not at the moment.

Be careful with the tractor units and engines of that nature as they are designed to run high RPM (not all). Do a lot of research or you'll be buying it twice or more. Kubota motors are water cooled.
