Got the diggers hotline called buddy's renting a skid steer with tracks for the weekend. Gona see where my underground electric runs though and I'm going down down baby. Planning on a. 16x30 hole. Going to over dog quite a bit so I can do it all with the skiddy.

It's going to be between house and shop the area is raised about four feet above the grade of the drive I'll come in side ways from in front of the shop and pile everything to the north of the hole. It shouldn't be hard to get to 8 feet. I will go deeper if I'm having a hard time finding the pipe. I know pretty much where it's at but I'll have to make a probe  when I start getting down to it. I think it's somewhere between 8' and 10' deep. This will be kinda intense. I have dug holes like this before to bury trees, with a front end loader.

The cool part is that it going to be over top of a 8" irrigation line that supplied water to a pivot point a quarter of a mile away. I'm hoping a can harvest some extra geothermal energy from it. It shouldn't be more than 4' down from the grade of the drive. I am planning on going 8ft down. I remember them putting it in they had the stinger on the ditch witch buried.

Im all excited and nervous. The ground I think is going to be very hard. So I'll be doing alot of the finish work with a pick. But I don't think I'll have to timber my sides. I wasn't really ready to do this yet but when you get free equipment you gotta go go go go. I really like to dig. All I gotta do is feed er diesel. Track machines are so nice you can really build square with them. CATS are the Cadillacs of the skid steer world.

There is also a buried water line that goes out to a stock tank that I wish they could locate for me so I could tie into it but perhaps another a day. I can run it from underneath the house I just really hate getting in the crawlspace. Not ideal we can get sustained 10-15 degree weather.

Street sweeper cocked ready to let it go. Hitting it this week end. Wish me luck.

8 feet deep with no time to shore up the walls?
That sounds dangerous.

Hi Zach, cool opportunity.  Where do you live in the world (approximately)?  The farther North or South you get relative to the Equator, the more shadows you'll get in winter in a walipini.  If you aren't growing in the winter, then never mind  Are you thinking the center pivot irrigation line would give you cold in the summer or heat in the winter?  It would be neat to build a system to dump greenhouse heat into that cold water line....

Our dirt holds together pretty good but I'll be doing the 1'out for every 1' down after 4'. Collaspes do happen and they will kill you. I live in the northern hemispere 40.6. I plan on pulling warm into the green house pushing hot air out. We will see how fancy I get I was thinking about putting a temp sensor out there for this winter and just running the switch if it dips to low. I'm also considering g putting an insulated thermal water battery in. It's gonna be a big hole.

I am using data from suncalc.org for these calculations.. As I began looking at what the sun is doing during the Summer Solstice I became rather confused to find that in the middle of the day the sun will be coming in at the same angle as on the winter solstice but from the north rather than the south. Can this be? Can anyone explain this? It feels like I've got to be looking at this wrong or something.

My previous laptop never exploded like that. Read this tiny ad while I sweep up the shards.
