Hi Ann. I have had asthma for 40 years and started on GAPS 8 months ago. In about 3 weeks I was off all asthma medication but several months later got pregnant and started back on small amounts of raw milk, sourdough bread and potatoes. To make a long story short after awhile my asthma began to come back and so I started taking Camu Camu and found this would alleviate my attacks! Camu camu is very high in Vit C so it supports the adrenal glands and is a natural antiinflamatory. I found taking about 3/4 teaspoon twice daily would keep my attacks away so maybe have your son try taking some about 30 minutes before he exercises. Another thing that has helped me in the past is cayenne pepper, either a dash in warm water or in a capsule form. Fortunately for me I went back to a strict GAPS diet 2 days ago and my asthma is completely gone again! Dr. Pottinger also has a respiratory tonic that he used to give his patients. It is in the Nourishing Traditions book and I believe it is a teaspoon of grated grass fed liver, a cup or two of tomato juice and a dash of tobasco sauce. I believe I read to drink it daily.
