I'm mostly growing them for the nitrogen, next to some fruit trees.  I live in California, so average daily temperatures are always above freezing.

I planted a couple bare root black locusts about two years ago that I want to coppice.  They are about 8 feet high now, and their trunks are about a couple inches in diameter.  How long do I need to wait before coppicing?

I have been using straw mulch, but unfortunately it seems to attract pests that eat my seedlings, especially my tomatoes. The pests seem to be too small to see, so I don't know what they are. I have tried using diatomaceous earth with very little success. Any advice?

I was thinking that when I start my homestead I should register it as a 501c3. The mission would be to conduct research and provide education on permaculture, natural building, and sustainability. The benefit would be that everything I spend on it would be tax deductible. What do you think?

Where do you get all those tires for earthships? I can imagine a huge portion of the time and money that went into building the house could be wasted on just transporting materials.
