Herb spirals we're a Bill Mollison invention. The whole thought process is that you can plant more herbs in a spiral going upwards in less space than a linear bed. I built one the way everyone seems to be doing now, build the structure, then fill it. It didn't do well. Mollison builds them by piling up your soil in a 6x6 mound, a minimum of 3 feet high, then place some stones in a spiral direction up the mound. I had to laugh as I read somewhere that apparently someone is teaching that the spiral is for water flow... Nope lol. Anyway, I live in a small space and have every intention of building a proper herb spiral in the site of my ill functioning one. Well, my oregano loves it. BTW, not every design principle is good for every climate. Most can be adjusted to work, but not all.

My mother recently passed away, and we are selling the family farm in Western Kentucky. It would be a wonderful permaculture place for someone. It's location is one of the highest points in Graves county. Unfortunately, none of the family live in the area anymore, and aren't in the position to take it on.

You will need to change it quickly. Before the kickstarter locks down.

You can pledge $100 and select the reward for $1. And it sounds like you don't want that. You gotta find that thing-a-ma-bob that lets you change your reward.

I initially bid $60, but decided I wanted all 8 DVD's. Changed my bid to the $90 but it only shows me getting the 4 DVD's. Is that a glitch and can it be changed?

not yet, they are downsizing and they don't have room for it anymore after moving to their new house. Would be a great item for some one who wants to clean their grain with people power instead of fossil fuels. For some reason, I figured permie peeps would know what one was... you know what they say, one man's junk is another's treasure, and this isn't junk. If I didn't live in the city and had room for it myself I'd get it. Unfortunately, I don't. I'm really surprised that no one is interested, maybe I haven't advertised in the right place...

ok, the round pen is about 8 inches of sandy dirt with 6 inches packed gravel below that.

Thanks, I knew we'd have to seed it. I'm thinking I like your idea of feeding cattle first, then hogs.

I'm working on a design for a friend. They have a round paddock that was used for horse by previous owners. It has a packed gravel base. someone told them to run pigs in it to till it and loosen the gravel. Just wondering how well it would work. I know pigs are good tillers, but thinking packed gravel might be a bit rough on them. All advice welcome.
