Other photos. The space between firebox and mantle is 9 inches and it is 16 inches to mantle shelf. Installed this way because of fire codes 12years ago.

Thanks Uncleg

The reason I don't want an insert is that I feel it will ruin look of fireplace, It is a corner fire place with a large 7f t tall 120-150 year old ornate oak mantle and mirror, the outside of firebox and hearth are cover in a marble tile. I just don't think an insert would be a good look, My parents had a very large granite stone fireplace in their home and that covered on whole wall of their den, I always thought it looked so bad when they installed insert. I will post some pics when I get home to show Yall what I am working with, and the measurements from mantle and other clearances.

Thankk You,

Hello, I'm new here. I grew up heating with wood with a Large Buck stove insert in our fireplace. Now that I have my on home I realize I need an emergency heat back up, during winter power outages, which can last up to a week, we are in rural South Carolina and not prepared for harsh winter weather when it hits. My house has a full masonry fireplace in it 11 years old used earlier this year for the first time. The fire box is 28 inches high/32 inches wide and 24 inches deep at the front. In the back it is 25 inches wide/ and 21 inches deep at top. I would like to install a small attractive wood heater inside firebox, is this possible? and if so does anyone have any recommendations. I have been searching but am concerned about stove over heating due to clearance not being as big as recommended. I found one in the United Kingdom, Tiger wood heater for small fireplace installation, but can't find in States. I really want to avoid an insert and will be unable to do a hearth installation.

Thanks for any advice and help,
