Hello.  We might be interested in Christian community.

Thank you Anne.  I know this is a year or so later but thank you anyway! We are excited as my hubby can collect social security ina couple of years and we think we can homestead on that with careful living....small solar setup, hand crank water from our well, gardening, rabbits, chickens and building with natural materials. Heating with wood stove. Swapping our Prius for a Honda rebel two seater motorcycle.  Then in another six years I can get social security and then we can live high on the hog!

But yes, I think part of this plan should be seed saving from the foods we eat.  And growing with beans from the store!

Great idea!

Happy Spring!

I have Zoeller submersible well pump model #1450-0010 2 wire version and I want to power this AC pump using solar so I can quit paying my 40 minimum monthly electric bill here in Missouri. Also soon I will be on a limited income of SS of about 1000 dollars a month. It sounds like the most expensive part may be the inverter.
I do have a 2021 Toyota Prius and it has a high voltage battery as since it is a hybrid. I did not know if I could run my water well off of it. Any ideas?

Hello again.  I'm just going to use the hose when I drain the stock tank so I didn't think it would freeze.
But I have lived thru a lot of freezing winters in my lifetime.  I'm in southern Missouri Ozarks. Zone 6.

Good day,
Bethany

Thank you very much
I was watching a YouTube on how to install a drain on a stock tank.
But the hose sounds simpler and smaller hole thru the wall.
I like it.
Thank you
Will save money too

We just moved here few months ago.
So focus is on shelter/wood stove/winterizing now.
But gardening will come later. Can I put soapy water on plants?
Peace and love

Hello good people.  I am rebuilding an old cabin. I'm running behind
for winter.
I have a well house 100 to 150 feet from the cabin.
I planned to do heat tape and insulation on water hose from
well to cabin....then install hose thru cabin wall, install
simple faucet.  Have electric 5 gallon heating element
to heat 5 gallons of water for shower.

But how can I drain shower water?
Thinking of stock tank tub or shower base from
Lowes.  Cabin is elevated ? about a foot off ground with concrete
block
Need simple cheap system.  Don't have a lot of time
or money.
Any ideas?
Thank you
God bless
Love and peace to you from southern Missouri Ozarks

Thank you all for your responses    we bought some 2 ton bottle jacks and have jacked the cabin up and put concrete blocks under it.

Definitely an improvement

Next summer we plan to build another room onto this or connect with a short hallway so we can share heat and ac between the rooms.
We are now insulating and getting ready to install us stove

We are rebuilding our 200 square foot old cabin to live in.  Southern Missouri Ozarks.  We both work so not a lot of time and energy. We have decided to go with a us stove 300 dollar wood stove.
We still have an RV about 30 foot long that could benefit from possibly a rocket mass heater.  But I don't know enough about it.

Thank you Nancy for your encouragement and Bruce you have just kinda stated what I was just thinking.  I think we will remove the flooring until the cross beams are exposed and this will help us access the bottom beams so we can come up with a way to rebuild the foundation/support system for the cabin.

I think this would be worthwhile and possibly not too expensive and would give us many more years in the long run.

Sorry I've been busy working and fighting a knee problem.  Plan to get out there today and tommorow.  At some point I will take pictures for you all.

Matt McSpadden wrote:Hi Bethany,
If the floors being unlevel is not a structural issue and you are trying to save money, then I would leave well enough alone.

Having said that I would tend to agree with John Daley on putting some money into it and getting it down right. A foundation is not the place to scrimp on money or materials.

Thanks for your response.  This was the best we could do in 2010. Feeding people can sometimes take precedence over buying concrete.
We may build a small cabin in a year or so and we will not make the same mistake. Our kids are grown now so not as hard. Still a tight budget. We have worked a lot but still don't have a lot of money....imagine that in the great USA. But thankful to God for what we have.
Jacking it up has proven to cause more.
Might do some pictures this weekend.
I think we will put down some plastic type material or insulation and call it good.
Have a good day.
